The Stanley Cup visits Nettelhorst!

On Wednesday, June 16th, the Stanley Cup made a visit to Nettelhorst School!  Students and parents had the opportunity to touch and take pictures with the Cup as well as congratulate the Blackhawk organization on their achievement.

Over the past year, the Blackhawk organization and Nettelhorst school have developed a strong relationship.  Several players and members of the Organization send their children to Nettelhorst school.  In addition, the Blackhawks provided a grant to the school in support of the school’s health and wellness program with an updated fitness room, donations to the school library and support of a street hockey league.

Photos of the visit can be seen starting Monday, June 21st at www.catconrad.shutterfly.com under “Events and Weddings”

10 for 10 program-Volunteer now!

With the looming CPS budget crisis, Nettelhorst school is asking for additional support from parents and families!  10 for 10 is an inventive new way to provide support for our teachers and classrooms.  Every family will commit a minimum of one hour a month of volunteer time for 10 months during the 2010-2011 school year.  This volunteer opportunity includes both time in the class room as well as projects at home for those parents who are unable to committ during the school day.

Please take a moment and fill out your committment letter for next year and drop it in the mail to the school office.  The form can be found under Quick Links on the school website home page www.nettelhorst.org

With all of us working together, we can insure another successful year for our students at Nettelhorst, despite the economic and budget challenges facing CPS.

Questions can be directed to Lisa Levens at llevens01@gmail.com

Trustworthy-This Month Character Trait

This month’s character trait is Trustworthy.  Teachers are encouraged to use existing curriculum, books, and resources to discuss the character trait of the month.  Teachers are highly encouraged to discuss daily events in light of the character trait of the month.  Students learn best when learning is connected to daily activities. We also believe in a strong home-school connection. Parents can help build connections when focusing on the character traits at home.
