Transition Ahead as Dr. Kurland Prepares to Retire

The Nettelhorst LSC (Local School Council) has quite a task as they prepare to select a principal to replace Dr. Susan Kurland, who retires in May. Fourteen candidates toured the school for several hours on Monday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 27th. In the evening, they spoke to an audience of parents, LSC members, staff, community members, and several students. Each applicant had ten minutes to present their qualifications. Based on input from the audience, the LSC will narrow down the list and begin interviews.

Following Dr. Kurland will be a challenge. In the eight years she has served as Nettelhorst principal, the school has gone from sorely under-utilized to become the pride of East Lakeview and a role model for public schools in Chicago.
