The Nettelhorst School, Cindy Wulbert, Principal
I hope everyone had an opportunity to hear all the great music made by our wonderful children on Wednesday. I know that everyone present enjoyed the program. Our children did a fantastic job of using their musical talents, and our audience showed great enthusiasm for their performances. Nettelhorst is a great place to learn and grow.
To see evidence of great learning, be sure not to miss the science fair projects located in the hallway by the library. Please join me in wishing our students well as they continue on to the regional science fair. Representing Nettelhorst in the regional fair at Wilbur Wright Community College in January are Constanza Caal, first place, Emma Seslowsky, second place, and Shaan Iqbal, third place. Congratulations also those these honorable-mention winners: Sophie Skroska, Marie Mungenast, and Leon Mims. (more…)

Yesterday, I had the privilege of getting to know the volunteers that help with our Bank Day program. The volunteers really enjoy helping our students make deposits and hone those important math skills. If you walk by the “bank” table (set up outside the cafeteria every Thursday during the students’ lunch time), please thank these women. They provided such a valuable connection between the math classes we teach and the real-life skills that our young people need to develop. On a business note, please be aware there is no banking next week. Harris Bank uses the final weeks of December to take care of technical issues. Please save your deposit for January.I also want to thank the many parents who assist in classrooms each day. Not only do you enhance the education offered at Nettelhorst, but you model for your children that education is important. For those of you who cannot come in and help during the school day but volunteer in other ways, you also model how important education is. Nettelhorst would not be the place it is without all our parents, grandparents, and community members who are also volunteers. I thank you for the gift of time. (more…)
From the Emerald City to Nettelhorst School
Halloween came early to Nettelhorst School when Barbara Robertson, Wicked’s Madame Morrible, visited on Thursday, October 18, 2007.
As Honorary Headmistress for the Day, Barbara gave the morning announcement (in a variety of amazing voices) and the Pledge of Allegiance, assisted by two of the students.
She then visited the 2nd grade classrooms where she read from the Earth Storybook (written by Wicked castmembers) and shared green tips with the children.
As part of the “green theme”, most of the student body dressed in green…some even had green sprayed hair. In one of the classes, all of the children wore green headbands that they had made for the occasion.
Before she left, Barbara autographed some Wicked posters and passed out “green tip” bookcovers. which the show’s producer had sent…one for every Nettelhorst student. What a treat!
