READ, READ, READ!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2009 Summer Reading Challenge

This summer Nettelhorst is partnering with the Chicago Public Library and its summer reading program.  Nettelhorst students who participate in the Chicago Public Library’s reading program and earn a t-shirt will be entered into a raffle.  Winners of the raffle will attend a field trip to the Harold Washington Library and have a picnic lunch.  The date of the field trip is TBA, but will take place during the first quarter of the upcoming school year.  Be sure to check out the Chicago Public Library summer reading program and suggested summer reading list for your child’s grade level.  A link can be found at the Nettelhorst Library Media Center.

Also, encourage your child to join our student reading blog this summer at the Summer Book Talk Blog located on the top menu bar of the Library Media Center website.  Any student who blogs about the books they are reading over the summer will earn an additional raffle ticket for the field trip and will be practicing their keyboarding skills.

Lastly, check out additional cool activities on our Library Media Center website, including an activity where your child can practice their keyboarding skills as well as participate in some age-appropriate fun educational games for those rainy summer days.  All this and more can be found in the Interactives online Student Center.

School registration underway

School registration is currently underway for the 2009-2010 year.  If your child is new to the Nettelhorst school district and/or is starting Kindergarten they will need to be registered.  Registrating your child prior to the start of the school year on September 8th allows us to appropriately plan for class sizes and staff.

Below is some helpful information….

Summer school office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:30am-1:00pm.

You’ll need to bring the following information to the school your child will be attending:

  1. Your child’s birth certificate to show proof of age
  2. Two documents that confirm proof of residency within the school’s boundaries.  This could include a driver’s license, utility bill, rental contract, property deed, etc…

If you’re unsure of the school boundaries, visit the CPS boundry site at schoollocator.cps.k12.il.us. Follow the directions. Click submit. This will bring up a window where you type in your home address and also indicate the type of school you’re looking for, in this case, “elementary”. Next, you can click on “Find Your Home School” (your neighborhood Chicago Public School) or “Find Schools in Your Vicinity”. Whichever category you select, the next screen will pull up the relevant schools. Click on each school to see the boundary lines and make sure your child is within the boundary of the school you select.

Lastly, physical and dental examination as well as immunization requirements are also needed by specific dates during the school year, but are not necessarily required when registering your child.  To learn more, please click on the link below

Any questions?  Please don’t hesitate to contact the Nettelhorst school office at 773-534-5810

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
