ISAT Testing starts this week
Children in grades 3-8 will take the ISAT test beginning on Wednesday, March 3rd and will take place over the next two weeks. It is important for all children to arrive to school on time. Hallways must be clear and quiet when testing begins. Children arriving after 9:15 will not be allowed to enter their classrooms and will have to make- up the test during the make-up days. It is important for children to go to bed at a reasonable hour and eat a healthy breakfast during ISAT testing.
Good Luck to all students!

Thoughtful-This Months Character Trait
This month’s character trait is Thoughtful. Teachers are encouraged to use existing curriculum, books, and resources to discuss the character trait of the month. Teachers are highly encouraged to discuss daily events in light of the character trait of the month. Students learn best when learning is connected to daily activities. We also believe in a strong home-school connection. Parents can help build connections when focusing on the character traits at home.
Annual Helping Hands Fundraiser Underway
What is the Nettelhorst Helping Hands Annual Fundraiser?
Each fall the Nettelhorst Community Group (NCG) raises money for the greatest need at Nettelhorst, as determined by our principal. This year the money from the campaign will provide critical technology for your child including the following….
- A first-rate, modernized computer lab with more capabilities and better ergonomics
- State-of-the-art electronic whiteboard and projection technology available for every grade level, giving teachers much more powerful tools to teach kids across every subject area
Who can contribute?
Anyone! This includes extended family members, friends, neighbors and businesses
How are donations being handled?
- Complete the donation card available at www.nettelhorst.org/dreams, write a check and mail to the school at 3252 N. Broadway Chicago, IL 60657
- Donate directly online at www.nettelhorst.org/dreams and click the Donate Now button
Thanks for supporting Nettelhorst and giving our students the best opportunity to achieve academic excellence.
Nettelhorst Fundraising Meeting
Please join us for the Nettelhorst Fundraising Meeting on Tuesday, October 20th 6:30pm in the school library.
The first – and possibly only – meeting of the year, to answer questions such as:
- What are key gaps in my child’s experience at Nettelhorst?
- How can I help fill them, as an advocate, volunteer, donor, and/or as a link to donors?
- How can I help create massive positive change for my family’s own children, and the rest of the hundreds of children at Nettelhorst?
If you are unwilling to accept that your children will be provided only what some distant politician decides is “right”, then this meeting is for you.
We’ve proven that Nettelhorst’s fundraising efforts work – nearly $1,000,000 in funds pledged/raised in the past two years.
We’ll cover recent successes – and failures – and share plans for this year’s drive to improve technology education and equipment across all grades (including an upgraded computer lab).
Nettelhorst turned the corner because parents got involved. May of those parents have served their terms, after doing great things for the school. If no one steps up to fill the gaps they leave, they will remain unfilled, and the quality of the school will suffer.
As always, you need absolutely no knowledge of nor experience in fundraising.
