Friday News - Feb. 1

The Nettelhorst School, Cindy Wulbert, Principal

NOTE: There was an incorrect posting for the Friday News from Feb 1. This is the corrected version. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The science initiative for Nettelhorst has been very successful. We’ll have a new program next year that will allow all children to explore scientific concepts using activities and experiments. I want to thank all the parents who have been working on the initiative. Without all of your hard work and dedication this would not be possible. We’re actively looking into other ways to bring in additional resources to make the Nettelhorst science program the best in the city. (more…)

Friday News - Jan. 18

Nettelhorst Elementary School, Cindy Wulbert, Principal

Wednesday was a great day here at Nettelhorst. The Chicago Cubs Caravan came with the message “Reading will enable you to succeed in life.” What a great message to share with our students! Our Alderman, Tom Tunney, who has been so instrumental in helping Nettelhorst, was present to help me accept a $37,500 contribution to Nettelhorst from Chicago Cubs Charities. Nettelhorst would like to thank Chicago Cubs Charities an Alderman Tunney for their generosity and their time.

Our community is full of business owners who are very supportive of our school. Caribou Coffee, LVAC, and Chipotle are just a few. These companies have supported the Nettelhorst community with their generous donations. Please support these companies to help show our appreciation. (more…)

Fundraising Campaign Off to a Super Start

Blowing wind. Rainy and cold. Thursday, January 10th was the kind of night to stay home near a cozy fire. But not for the 35 Nettelhorst parents and friends who gathered for the first Nettelhorst Community Group fundraising planning meeting.

After a brief but rousing intro from Ted Ganchiff, the somewhat soggy group split into various committees to draft timelines and set action plans in motion.

Our goal: $230,000. for three exciting and much needed programs:
• the Nettelhorst Science Curriculum Project
• the Nettelhorst School Auditorium Project, “Have A Seat” and
• the Opportunity Fund

Almost $92,000. has been raised to date. Pretty amazing since we’ve just begun our campaign!

Friday News - Jan. 11

The Nettelhorst School, Cindy Wulbert, Principal

A new year brings new possibilities. This year we have a great deal to celebrate. The fundraising committee is making progress toward the goals we have set as a community. I’m amazed by all the talented and dedicated parents that I’m privileged to work with. Without parents like you, Nettelhorst would not be what it is today. I look forward to working with you in the new year. We’ll think big and achieve amazing results together.

During the month of December we spent many mornings inside. Between the ice, the cold, and the snow, it was not safe to line up or play on the playlot. This week the weather has been better and we have been lining up outside. Some parents have been bringing children to classrooms and dropping them off. It is important that you know teachers have other responsibilities before 8:50 each morning: some are in meetings, and all teachers will continue to pick up students from the playground areas. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll place signs on Door 1 and Door 4 indicating where children should line up inside. Please drop your children off at the appropriate place. Parents should drop off Kindergarten students in the cafeteria. All other students should line up in the hallways by the Auditorium and Happy Start. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and respected. (more…)

Friday News - Dec. 21

The Nettelhorst School, Cindy Wulbert, Principal

I hope everyone had an opportunity to hear all the great music made by our wonderful children on Wednesday. I know that everyone present enjoyed the program. Our children did a fantastic job of using their musical talents, and our audience showed great enthusiasm for their performances. Nettelhorst is a great place to learn and grow.

To see evidence of great learning, be sure not to miss the science fair projects located in the hallway by the library. Please join me in wishing our students well as they continue on to the regional science fair. Representing Nettelhorst in the regional fair at Wilbur Wright Community College in January are Constanza Caal, first place, Emma Seslowsky, second place, and Shaan Iqbal, third place. Congratulations also those these honorable-mention winners: Sophie Skroska, Marie Mungenast, and Leon Mims. (more…)
